Michael Mapstone
CEO, Anglo American Foundation
Michael Mapstone is a distinguished leader with more than 20 years of experience in civil society organisations. Since 2022, he has served as Head and subsequently as CEO of the Anglo American Foundation, where he spearheaded a new strategy and successfully launched programmes in Southern Africa and Latin America.
Prior to his current role, Michael held key positions, including Director of External Affairs and Global Engagement at Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). In this capacity, he oversaw the CAF Global Alliance, a prominent international network of independent organisations dedicated to advancing giving and bolstering civil society worldwide.
Additionally, he served as Special Adviser at the Commonwealth Secretariat, where he led partnership and stakeholder management strategies for governments, inter-governmental institutions, the private sector, and NGOs. Furthermore, Michael played a pivotal role in driving the global private sector strategy and managing a diverse partnerships portfolio at Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO).
Michael’s extensive international experience spans all continents, and he excels in leading teams across diverse languages and cultures. His dedication to fostering collaboration and driving impactful change positions him as a key leader in the global philanthropic and civil society sectors.
Shingi Bimha
Head of Partnerships and Programmes, Southern Africa
Shingi Bimha is passionate about unlocking the potential of individuals to transform communities and economies. She has focused her career on empowering people in communities, especially youth, to create positive, lasting impact on a local and global scale.
Shingi has close to 20 years’ experience in development, specialising in youth and enterprise development. Currently, she leads Anglo American Foundation’s strategy in Southern Africa, as Head of Programmes and Partnerships. Shingi joined the Foundation from TechnoServe, where she was the South Africa Country Director, leading the country platform and providing strategic oversight to Anglo American Zimele’s enterprise, supplier and youth development interventions across the company’s mining sites in South Africa. During her tenure, Zimele won the Impact and Youth award at the ABSA Supplier Development Awards.
Prior to this role, Shingi was Technical Advisor for TechnoServe’s Strengthening Rural Youth through Development Enterprise (STRYDE) program, where she was responsible for building country teams’ capacity for youth economic empowerment in Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda and ensuring quality control of program implementation. Before relocating to South Africa, Shingi spent seven years in Washington DC holding various roles with National 4-H Council, the non-profit arm of America’s largest youth development organisation, 4-H.
